I was speaking to my best friend the other day about how for the past year we have literally been living history. The pandemic is something that people knew was going to happen it was just a matter of time, what we didn’t know was how many people would not take it seriously enough. I see it through the point of view of someone whom has already gone through the grueling experience that is Covid-19. Everyone in my household contracted it except my father, and thank god for that because he was the sole reason we were eating or drinking. Then from that to the lack of leadership from our government has been so wild and to live through and see how even through a pandemic social injustices are still front and center. It boggles my mind how growing up our history books always taught us about the greatness that America has always been, but its been great for people who look a certain way NOT for everyone. These past four years I’ve seen, heard and experienced the hate that spews out of peoples mouths. As though they had a free pass to say hurtful things to people that look different than they do. For example my neighbors, I grew up going over to their house because they didn’t have a daughter but they loved me as one of their own. I saw them as loving people because that’s what they showed me. Through the years we inevitably saw less of each other but it was always smiles and greetings from us to them and vise versa, yet when the political climate started to change so did they. They became so patriotic out of nowhere and their boys would have parties were they would use derogatory terms for people of color. It was eye opening, these weren’t the people I once knew so well, it was heartbreaking. Yet as time went on so many people from my childhood & high school started showing their true colors there were so many people I had to unfollow on social media because of the hateful words they were using. Its wild for me to believe that people could hold so much hate and resentment for something that doesn’t personally affect them. I’ve heard peoples views on politics and social issues yet in them I still cant justify the words and actions of hate. Yet I also know there are people that hold republican views and don’t agree with what’s being said our done by members of their own party. The culture of today is so quick to dictate what is right and wrong yet we don’t always see that in itself doesn’t allow room for education or growth. As a whole we have lost humility. I am in no way saying Im perfect because God knows I’m not but do promise to look at things from an open minded perspective, everyone is entitled to their oven beliefs and I don’t always have to agree with it but that’s the beauty of it. We just need to keep pushing through all this muck and hopefully get through it, but if not I will say I’m not opposed to starting fresh somewhere new in the world…
